After 14 years at CNN, Zain Verjee, felt a guttural desire to reinvent her career.
With a penchant for writing, Verjee’s first step in the new direction was to attend a two-year Masters program in Creative Writing at Oxford University. From there, she began educating herself on Internet startups and the digital landscape.
The media mogul went on to establish aKoma Media: an online “story-telling platform” that focuses their content on African culture.
“We want to capture the diverse and creative energy of the continent, and from our own local African perspectives,” Verjee writes in her blog, adding “revival does not come without the hard work of self-reflection, stripping away self-perception, standing naked in front of your fragile self and determining a meaningful course forward.”
